| Itinerary: | |||||||
| We will walk a loop consisting of the Cooper Furnace Trail and the Laurel Ridge Trail, plus a side trip to a scenic overlook, for a total walking distance of about 4 miles. The Cooper Furnace Trail follows the route of a 19th century mining railroad bed through a mixed pine and hardwood forest. It features a vast variety of trees, shrubs and wildflowers. Wildlife is abundant here. A natural feature of interest is a pond inhabited by beaver and muskrat. The Laurel Ridge Trail crosses the slopes of a mixed pine and hardwood ridge overlooking the Etowah River Valley. Along the way see an abundance of mountain laurel and 32 varieties of identified trees. | |||||||
