Itinerary:

Special thanks to Ronny J (via Eric P) for the route of this classic hike.

This 11.4-mile loop trail near Tracy City, Tennessee. Generally is considered a challenging route. Although the mileage is just in to D5 territory and the elevation not scary, please note it is very rocky and has some steep climbs. Classified as challenging by All Trails means this hike earns every step of its D5 rating. Consider trekking poles due to the terrain.

This trail located in Grundy Forest State Natural Area at South Cumberland State Park offers spectacular views of rock formations, cascading streams, waterfalls, rocky gorges, panoramic overlooks and lush woodland. Along the route will pass Blue Hole Falls, Black Canyon and Falls, Chimney Rocks, Sycamore Falls, the Fruit Bowl, Foster Falls, Raven Point Vista, Flat Rock Overlook, Werner Point Overlook, Yellow Pine Cascade , Dog Hole Mine and Hanes Hole Falls.

Bringing your water shoes is highly recommended for creek crossings, even though we may be able to rock hop. They also double up as a handy accessory if you want to cool off in the water. and not slip and fall. We have allocated plenty of time for lunch and to see the sights, take pictures and enjoy the water. We may finish early.

If we find ourselves finishing early and wanting more, there is the option of another short but beautifil trail just down the road. We can decide on the day if we want to add the extra hike below.

This is a very difficult trail - be prepared and bring plenty of water. Although dogs are allowed to use this trail, we do not think it wise. The rock scrambling can be quite difficult for them. The rockiness of the gorge area and the amount of down trees can be a challenge.
