Itinerary:

The Garland Mountain Equestrian/Hiking Trails are just a little north of the city in Waleska, GA - - not too far from Rinehardt College. Over 540 acres  featuring more than 14 miles of trails for horseback riding and hiking. The parking area and trails are maintained by the Friends of Garland Mt., where both riders and hikers are welcome.  Because of the equestrian connection, all the trails are named for horse breeds:  Palomino, Sorrel, Dun, Pinto, Chestnut, Dapple Grey, Roan and others. Excellent blazes and maps allow for ease of following the trails, so there's no chance of getting lost.

The trail markings are clear and well-placed, with diectional symbols in the form of horseshoes.   There are plenty of options for hiking throughout the area.

There are several little creek crossings, so waterproof boots are advised, especially if there have been recent rains.  The water isn't deep in the creeks, but there is a possibility of wet shoes if you miss a rock.

The trails are winding and rolling, but no long, steep climbs.  Our hike might be a little more or less than 7 miles, depending upon which trails we take.

After the hike, we'll get our lunches out of the cars and eat in the pavilion just off the parking lot. The pavilion is large with several tables, so distancing won't be a problem.   Bring your own lunch and if you like, something to share!

Sorry, no dogs on this hike.  Dogs and horses don't mix well!
