Itinerary:

The West Palisades Unit of the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area is inside the Perimeter in Vinings, on Cobb Parkway. West Palisades Trail follows the banks of the Chattahoochee, going under I-75 and crossing Rottenwood Creek. It then rises up into the bluffs and comes back down to the river and ends at Devils Race Course Shoals. The trail is mostly easy with some moderate uphill sections and some light scrambling on rocks in one part.

We'll be meeting in the Paces Mill Parking Area at 10:20am. There might be an element of exploration as I have not been to West Palisades before. I'll pick the trails based on previous AOC hike descriptions and the park map unless someone in the group knows the trails (good chance for this). In any case, it is a small park and we will not be lost. We will hike about five miles at a comfortable pace, which should take about 2 to 3 hours with plenty of time for any other plans you might have that day. After the hike we can go for lunch in a near by restaurant. This is optional for whoever is interested.

Please remember to bring $3 for the National Park Service parking fee, unless you have a Chattahoochee NRA annual pass.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:If you are heading I-285 East

Take exit 19 U.S. 41 (Cobb Parkway) South 1.5 miles to the unit entrance on right, just beyond the BP Service Station. Do not cross the Chattahoochee. 

If you are heading I-285 West

Take exit 20 U.S. 41(Cobb Parkway) South 1.5 miles to the unit entrance on right, just beyond the BP Service Station. Do not cross the Chattahoochee. 

If you are heading I-75 North

Take Exit 25, Mt.. Paran Road. Left on Mt.. Paran Road to U.S. 41 (Cobb Parkway). Turn right on U.S. 41 for 1 mile cross the Chattahoochee and take an immediate left onto entrance road. 

If you are heading I-75 South

Take Exit 25, Mt.. Paran Road. Right on Mt.. Paran Road to U.S. 41 (Cobb Parkway). Turn right on U.S. 41 for 1 mile cross the Chattahoochee and take an immediate left onto entrance road.

The entrance to the parking lot is on the same side of the road as the BP Station. The entrance road dips down and crosses under Cobb Parkway (Highway 41).
