Itinerary:

Ok so you've unwrapped your presents and gotten some new hiking gear...maybe shiny new boots and a spiffy backpack that you can't wait to test out. Well waste no time, and join us for a hike up Mount Yonah (and neighboring Pink Mtn).

The forecast for Christmas Day is looking very nice, if a bit chilly...high of 36, and plenty of sun.  We will be out there in the warmest part of the day, and this hike has plenty of uphill, so once we get going, we should be fine.

To begin, rather than jumping on the official trail, we will work our way through the woods, until we reach the saddle between Yonah and Pink Mtn. There is a use trail here and we will take that up about 300' to near the summit of Pink.  Then we will head back down, and up the SW side of Yonah.  This off trail route is steeper than the main trail and is fun and challenging, but no exposure, and still just hiking through the woods.

We will work our way up to the Yonah summit and then can enjoy the views and have lunch.  Then we will head down on the official trail, and back to our cars.

Total distance is about 5.3 miles and total ascent is about 1900'.   About half of that is in about 2/3 mile, on the way up the SW side of Yonah.

(Note, I haven't made an official carpool for this event, but if some of the participants want one, then I can cerintaly help coordinate that, even though I plan to meet at Yonah).
