Itinerary:

Want to learn the basics to Abseiling...aka Rappelling - Safely? YES!

Don't have climbing or Rap gear? No problemo!

Do you have your own climbing gear? Cool!

Do you want to expand your knowledge of the sport? YES!

Well c'mon then...this interactive, GROUND-based training will be a great way to get an idea of rappelling without any life threatening risks.
I'll be going over basic techniques of rappelling (a few folks were asking for info on this - since I have a couple of upcoming events that include rappelling..here we are), we'll cover "rapping" with a climbing harness and minimal gear - all the way to no gear, which is called South African rappelling (all you need is a rope and a good grip). All good info to have in case of an emergency (heck as a US Marine, any time we rappelled in the field it was with only a rope).

I'll be going over some knots and such related to basic rapping, but not a super deep dive. Closing the system and anchors.

I'll be covering how to make a climbing harness out of 1" webbing and a carabineer

Required Items to Bring:

notebook
pen, pencil or crayola
weather appropriate clothing - we'll be outside for quite a bit

questions like:  why would anyone want to rappel when you can "walk off" a mountian?*

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

water, coffee, tea??

climbing gear if you do have some
carabineer(s), locking
rope - i'll have 2 - 9.8mm to practice with
30' of 1" webbing - I'll also have a bunch

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Roswell Visual Art Center
10495 Woodstock Road  Roswell, GA 30075

Meet in the parking lot by the Roswell Visual Art Center, or just look for the "Lil Sasquatch" - see the GPS link for an idea where this is...it's near the pond area.
We'll be under the cover of one of the small shelters by the pond lit up by little holiday lights, it has a large, sturdy picnic table. Requested it thru RP&R web site....so we get no hassles says Mr. King ;)

Notes:

Rappelling is the most dangerous aspect of outdoor climbing - anytime you can "walk off" a mountain, you should! (to answer that earlier question above).
This ground-based basic instruction should just give adventurous folks an idea of what they'll need to do rappelling safely in a controlled environment, do not mistake this "Learn" event as some sort of certification to go rappelling on a multipitch cliff...it is not!
Be safe,

I will be posting this once again at a later date - but before my Waterfall Rappelling event in March.
