Itinerary:

To join the fun you must have recent mountain hiking experience. This hike is a D5 hike with one of the hardest climbs on the Georgia AT and the pace will be on the fast end of moderate.  The trip leaders reserve the right to move hikers to the wait list if there is doubt regarding fitness and pace. Please expect an email request for more information if your AOC matrix does not display recent hiking at this level.

We will take one of the three hardest climbs on the Georgia AT by summitting Rocky Mountain (fortunately on fresh legs) followed by Tray Mountain however our overall distance and climb are more moderate levels for a D5.

Our "reward" will be one of the top two visitas on the Georgia AT by way of the stealth outcropping site on top of Tray.

Elevation Gain:  3200.8 feet (2283 feet outbound, 918 feet homebound)

Total Grade: 626.8 feet/mile

Moving speed: up to 3.0mph; 2.5mph avg.

This section contains some of the longest climbs and highest peaks on the AT in Georgia.  It rarely descends below 3500 feet.  The trail leads through the Tray Mountain Wilderness.

This hike will cross the summits of Rocky Mountain (3992 feet) and Tray Mountain (4430 feet).  From the outcrop on Rocky, you can see the Atlanta skyline looking from your one o'clock.  On Tray's summit, we will take the little trail which follows the promontory to a bluff with fantastic views.

Tray Mountain is the 5th highest peak in GA and the 2nd highest on the Georgia AT.  We will have lunch on Tray and then turnaround for out homebound segment.
