Itinerary:

No excuses for NOT going on this hike.  This is a perfect hike for beginners who can't handle speed, distance, or elevation changes yet.  We'll go at an leisurely pace at this Sandy Springs location that is a hidden treasure right smack in the middle of bustling Sandy Springs.  This is an excellent hike for folks who want to get into hiking for the first time, who want to simply get out and enjoy the beauty of nature and breathe some fresh air without exerting themselves, or who want to begin hiking again after an injury.  Veteran hikers are certainly welcome, but please don't complain about the slow pace!  (Running is prohibited in this peaceful little park!)

This trail is beautiful in the spring when the trees have leaves and flowers are blooming.  Right now. we'll just have to imagine the beauty to come. Regardless of the lack of foliage, it's amazing to realize that all of this serene beauty is sequestered right on Roswell Road at the parking lot for the government building!   An added bonus is the nice bathroom house right at the trail head.

There are several little trails at Big Tree Preserve, including  (1) the Backcountry Trail; (2) the Spring Hollow Trial; and (3) the Jackson Overlook Trail. These trails are for foot travel only and are easy to walk with no steep grades.  We'll hike all the trails and even double back on some of them.

Parking is free!
