Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Located just north of the Talladega Forest and just west of the Georgia State line, this hike is pretty close to home as we will enjoy an hour and 15 minute carpool.

Section 13, built between 1985 and 2002 was the final section built on the Pinhoti Trail. The Alabama Trails Association completed this section that finalized the linking of the Pinhoti and Appalachan Trails. We will be passing a dedication marker about .3 miles in on our trek where we will celebrate and break into song.

This section has some of the better views on the Alabama Pinhoti and has some steeper climbs as well. Expect about 3000 feet of gain on this hike. We will also be passing a 100 year old oak tree at the 5 mile mark... we won't be singing here. We will stop for lunch at the 1700 foot overlook where a very broad view of Georgia will be before us. After lunch, we will retrace our steps back to our cars.

We will be moving at an average pace of about 2.8 mph with faster speeds on the flats  and downhills.

This is a difficult D5 hike, recent D5 experience is required to join the fun. Under experience hikers will be moved to the wait list to await contact from the TL to access your capabilities.

We will be joined by my furry friend Buck on this hike. If occasional doggy attention is not your thing, this will not be a good hike for you.
