Itinerary:

Please join me and Lisa on a hike of the Cochran Shoals Loop at the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area. Please arrive about 10 minutes early for introductions. We will stop along the way for a group photo.

We will hike along the Chattahoochee River with beautiful views and stop at the new viewing platform for photos.  After passing the Columns Drive entrance we will venture up off the main (flat) loop to visit the Scribner Family Cemetery in the woods on the Sope Creek Trail.  The visit to the cemetery requires a fairly steep rooty ascent of about 200 feet.  We will then hike through the woods before we descend to the main loop and back to our cars.  While in the woods we will see some beautiful trees and wildflowers but also the devastation and downed trees caused by pine beetles.

There are bathrooms at the trailhead.

In total we will cover about 4.5 miles and about 220 feet of elevation.  This hike is on the more difficult side of D1 hikes because of the steep rooty ascent to the cemetery.  Beginner hikers may find it too challenging. Hiking poles would be very helpful.

A CRNRA pass on your car is required.  One day fee is $5.00  Or you can buy an annual pass for $40.00,  If you do not have a pass you can purchase one online at nps.gov/chat/planyourvisit/fees.htm.   You can also buy a pass using a QR code sign in the parking lot,
