Itinerary:

HIKE IS NOW ON SATURDAY, JUNE 3

Join me for a Saturday morning hike exploring the woods of Mason Mill and Ira B. Melton parks. (No Lullwater on this hike.)

We’ll meet at the restrooms and playground area at Mason Mill Park for introductions. We'll begin by taking the trail around the community garden and tennis courts that will emerge at the stone bridge. We'll take a look at the old Decatur waterworks on our way to Ira B. Melton. THERE IS A STREAM CROSSING. This is different from my past hikes here. I - who am of modest stature - can cross this without a problem when the water is not too high. If there's been a lot of rain and the water is high, we'll forego Ira and pick up that mile in Mason Mill. We will continue exploring the woodland trails off the boardwalk until we return to the parking area.

This is a lovely area with some interesting old structures remaining from another era. It makes for fun and interesting hiking.

I maintain an average pace of 3 mph. There are also a few steep slopes with rocks and gravel. If you’re not comfortable with tricky footing and maintaining this higher end of a moderate pace, you should sit this hike out. Please arrive at the meeting point early to allow time for any needed pit stops before hitting the trail promptly at 8:30 am.
