Itinerary:

This is one of the most popular hikes in Georgia, and for good reason. It is a very moderate 2.5 mile hike to the falls. The trail parallels Dodd Creek, which forms numerous cascades and at least two waterfalls on the way. At 2.5 miles, we will reach Raven Cliffs Falls, which plummets over a 125 foot rock cliff. For the more adventurous, you can climb up to the top of the Falls, but watch your footing. We will eat lunch at the base of the falls and then hike home.

On the way back we could stop for a little bit of sightseeing in Helen GA, if there is interest.

This is my first so-called solo hike and I am planning to start a series of slow pace hikes, I am working on getting shape for some of the longer and tougher routes and hope that I find some people who want to join me in the build up. My hiking pace will always be on the slower side, most definitely on uphills and I like to take breaks for pictures and to get a breather. Someone who likes to hike fast might be a bit bored on my hikes (you have been warned).

Required Items to Bring:

Good hiking schoes, rain gear, lunch to eat at the falls, 1 liter drinks

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

Camera & good mood :-)

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Take GA 400 north, which is also US 19. As you approach Dahlonega, Take GA 60 around Dahlonega where it also becomes US 19 (GA 60 will eventually fork to the left at Porter Springs, but stay on US 19). Take a right onto US 129 at Turners Corner. Take a left onto GA Alt 75. Take a left onto the Richard Russell Hwy, GA 348. Look for parking lot for Raven Cliffs Falls after about 3.0 miles on GA 348.

Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):148Mile(s)
Carpool Departure Time: 9:00 am
Carpool Location:   Log in for location
Carpool Directions:   Log in for directions
Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $59.20 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:
This is the first in a series of slower pace hikes, that doesn't mean we won't add in longer more challenging routes, but it means that we plan enough time to hike them slow. I brought the pace issue up a few times and I believe there is interest in these kind of hikes. :-)
