Itinerary:
Let's go play on the a beautiful beach for the weekend. This event will start on Friday June 11th and we will return home on Sunday June 13th. I have reserved Group Primitive site #1 for 2 nights. Breakfast and lunches will be included in the fee. Please bring something to throw on the grill for Dinner. We wil supply a grill but feel free to bring your own.
Hunting Island State Park is located just 16 miles east of the historic town of Beaufort and is one of the most popular and beautiful beaches in South Carolina. This 5,000 acre park and it's 3 miles of natural beach hosts more than a million visitors a year.
It's a place where you can truly find yourself again. It's a place where humans and nature have always seem to co-exist. Hunting Island is a popular nesting ground for the endangered Loggerhead turtle. The park maintains a hatchery for the study and preservation of the species. The weather is nice most of the year and the cool Atlantic breeze helps to keep the summer heat to an enjoyable level.

There will be a flexible Itinerary of Visiting the lighthouse, Bicycling along a 6 mile trail (Mountain bikes are recommended), Nature walks on the beach and Marsh, Shelling, views of beautiful sunsets and sunrises, relaxing on the beach or just hanging around camp and reading a book. There is a $2 fee to climb the stairs to the top of the lighthouse. This is optional for those who want to climb.

Bring your camera for some beautiful photography opportunities. Photography is very popular while on Hunting Island. There are many great spots and new ones are made by nature with every tide change. Even the erosion that threatens the island brings great opportunity to the photographer. The lagoon is a perfect spot for photography as the bird life is plentiful and used to human activity. Morning shots can produce vivid colors on the water when shooting from the beach side towards the lagoon bank.

Feel free to bring a kayak or raft to float around the Lagoon. Some people prefer to get a rubber raft and just float around or paddle a kayak around. The lagoon is well protected from the surf, wind and is very peaceful. It's the quiet side of the beach.
Movies Filmed at the Lagoon
Two blockbuster movies, "Forest Gump" and "G.I. Jane" were filmed here. Forrest Gump scenes included the Vietnam war and camp parts. G.I. Jane shots included the jungle and water camp scenes.

Fishing for spots, whiting, trout, bass and puppy drum is popular at the lagoon, as well as crabbing and shrimping.  Bring your fishing gear if you want to fish but make sure to check and see what license requirements are for South Carolina.
