Notice: This web page is designed so that you can only put yourself on the waiting list. Once we verify that you satisfy the registration requirements we will move you to the list of participants. See registration requirements below. Day 1. (Friday, December 1): Departure from Atlanta. Day 2. (Saturday, March 2): Arrive at Ministro Pistarini (Ezeiza) International Airport in Buenos Aires. (Airport code: EZE.) Take shuttle bus to Aeroparque (AEP), where our domestic flight to San Carlos de Bariloche (BRC) departs. Note: there are a few flights directly from EZE to BRC. Arrive in Bariloche around noon. You will be met at the airport and driven to the city. Meet with our local organizer and pay the balance of the event cost. Meet with guides. Sleep in hotel or hostel. Dinner in town (lodging and dinner at your own expense). Day 3. (Sunday, March 3). In the morning transfer to trailhead at Villa Catedral and hike up to Refugio Frei where we will spend the night. Elevation change: 700 m. Hiking time: 5 or 6 hours. Day 4. (Monday, March 4). Hike to Refugio Jakob, where we will spend the night. We go up and down two ridges.Total ascent: around 800 meters. Hiking time: 6 or 7 hours. (Accomodations and meals at this lodge will be booked directly by the local tour organizer and are included in the event cost). More on Refugio Jakob Day 5. (Tuesday, March 5). We hike down 4 or 5 hours along Casa de Piedra Creek to a trailhead, where a van will be waiting to take us on a 3 hour trip to Pampa Linda. Night in Hosteria Pampa Linda (Accomodations and meals at this lodge will be booked directly by the local tour organizer and are included in the event cost). Net descent: around 900 m. More on Refugio Jakob Day 6. Wednesday, March 6): We ascend the slopes of Cerro Tronador to Refugio Otto Meiling, where we will spend the night. This refugio is famous for its excellent wine cellar. (Accomodations and meals at this refugio will be booked directly by the local tour organizer and are included in the event cost). Hiking time: about 6 hours. Elevation change: a little over 3000 ft Day 7. (Thursday, March 7): We cross over to Refugio Agostino Rocca which is in Paso de las Nubes. This involves crossing a glacier (Glaciar Alerce). Ropes, crampons and other equipment will be provided and we will be assisted by mountaineering guides licensed by the National Park. Their number will be proportional to the number of participants and is regulated by the park. There will be no significant elevation change and no particular skill or training is required. Hiking time about 5 hours, of which about 2 hours will be spent on the glacier. (Accomodations and meals at this site will be booked directly by the local tour organizer and are included in the event cost). Day 8. (Friday, March 8): Hike to Laguna Ilon, about 7 hs. I never measured the distance nor the elevation change, but the trail is reasonably well maintained and the elevation change is moderate. The accomodations at this site consists of domes, which can accomodate a large number of people on bunk beds. (Accomodations and meals at this site will be booked directly by the local tour organizer and are included in the event cost). Day 9. (Saturday, March 9): Descent to Pampa Linda (about 4 hours) and transfer to Bariloche (travel time: about 2.5 hours). Sleep in hotel or hostel. Farewell barbecue. (Lodging at your own expense, the barbecue is my treat). Note: arrival time in Bariloche depends on weather conditions, so it is not advisable to book a flight on this date. Day 10. (Sunday, March 10): Return to Buenos Aires in the morning. Fly to Atlanta in the evening. Day 11. (Monday, March 11): Arrive in Atlanta. NOTES:

Registration Requirements. TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS EVENT: 2. After we move you to the list of participants please send Richard Zalik a deposit of $225.00 by PayPal to zalikri@me.com. If we don't receive your deposit by February 1 we will move you back to the waiting list. 3. You will pay the remaining balance to the local tour organizer in Bariloche in cash, in USD. Payment and Refund Schedule: 1. A deposit of $225.00 must be received by the organizers through PayPal to zalikri@me.com by October 15. This includes a $25 AOC user fee which is nonrefundable. The balance of the deposit will be nonrefundable after November 8. However, if a qualified substitute can be found to take your place in the trip, she/he can use your deposit. 2. You will pay for your trip (less the deposit) in Bariloche. Payment must be in cash in US dollars. Before booking your lodging in Bariloche please contact Richard. This is important to ensure that all participants lodge close to each other. If you wish to stay in the area after finishing the event, there are several alternatives available including climbing Cerro Tronador, but arrangements must be made in advance.
