Itinerary:
This event is rated D4 for distance and pace. It requires recent AOC D3 or above experience to participate.

Weather looks great for Friday morning, so join us for an invigorating hike on the diverse "backside" of Kennesaw Mountain.

This hike encompasses the less-visited central and southern sections of Kennesaw Mountain. We'll do a sweeping loop of that area, crossing Noses Creek, passing Kolb Farm on the far southern end of the park, visiting the Grave of the Unknown Soldier and the Illinois Monument, and treking the recently reopened New Salem Church trail.

Although there are multiple rolling hills and significant elevation gain, we won't be climbing the mountain so we'll aim for an overall moving pace a little above 3.0 mph (which puts the event in the club's "fast" category).

This is NOT a self-paced hike, we'll hike as a group. There will be a short snack break somewhere along the way, along with brief rest/hydration/regrouping breaks as needed. There are no restrooms at the trailhead, but we will pass them near the Illinois Monument on the way back. Bring enough water for the full hike.
