Itinerary:

This is a repeat of Whitewater Kayak Clinic - Pool Session #1, if you attended that event you do not need to attend this one.  This event is intended for Beginners to the sport of kayaking.  If you have paddled before, are looking for a roll class or just looking to refine paddling skills this is probably not the event for you.  If you've already had your introduction to kayaking and your looking for some additional instruction contact the trip leaders and we can provide you with some resources or get a more advanced class scheduled.

Its getting warmer everyday so this is the time to nail down the basics of whitewater kayaking before paddling season gets into full swing.  This event is strictly for beginners who have little to no experience paddling a kayak.  You'll spend a session in a heated indoor pool in order to learn introductory techniques from experienced instructors from GOKAYAK.com that will include (but is not limited to) wet exits, roll intro, different types of strokes, and basic maneuvering.

The purpose of this event is for people to become familiar with a whitewater kayak and gain a certain comfort level before venturing onto one of the local rivers later in the spring/summer.  A little later in the season we'll have a beginner river trip to test out what you've learned.  A prerequisite for that river trip will be attending one of these pool sessions so sign up while you can!

We'll start by getting you outfitted with a boat and gear and then we'll hit the pool for some basic instruction.  The pool is indoors and heated, but we recommend you wear a top layer as you'll be in the water for a couple of hours.  We'll need your approximate height and weight to fit you in the right boat so please email the trip leaders with that info when you sign up.  Also please include a brief description of your paddling experience, if any.

Craig Heflin is the head instructor of GOKAYAK.com and has been conducting kayak lessons since 1994 ranging from the beginner to the advanced paddler.  A native of Georgia, Craig has paddled many of the major rivers in the continental US and possesses a vast knowledge of the local rivers in the southeast.

"I have observed Craig Heflin and GOKAYAK.com over the years as both a world class competitor and as one of the nation's premier kayak instructors and can say with honest conviction that he is in the top echelon in both areas when it comes to professionalism, safety, and passion for the sport of kayaking. Being both an instructor and businessman, he carries with him a healthy balance that assures his clientele will be treated to the best experience that kayaking has to offer, both on and off the river."
David G. Schubert, owner Go With The Flow Sports, Inc.

Disclaimer - This is a pool session so you will not be faced with the typical hazards you may find in a whitewater river (Strainers, Dams, Weirs, Ledges, Reversals, Holes, Hydraulics, etc.).  However, you must be comfortable in and around the water.  You will be spending the majority of the time in the water so you must be a competent swimmer and be comfortable upside-down underwater for up to ten seconds at a time.  All required safety gear will be provided to you and you are required to wear such items as directed by the instructor.
