Itinerary:
Join us for a sunset hike and picnic atop Blood Mountain, Georgia's tallest peak (elev. 4461 ft.) on the AT.  We will take the short but strenuous Byron Reece & Freeman Trails to a large outcropping at the top of the mountain where we will watch the sun set as we share a self-catered, picnic buffet.  (Be sure to bring something to share!)  We'll spend a few hours enjoying the top of Blood Mtn, and then we'll head back.

The distance each way is 2¼ miles, rocky and steep.  Hiking boots and trekking poles are highly recommended.  We'll be doing over 1400 ft. of gradual elevation change.  In other words, it's a climb.  If you are brand new to hiking, this event is probably NOT for you.  Please email your trip leaders if you have questions.

For those who are interested, Dahlonega is hosting a bluegrass festival over the weekend called "Bear on the Square."  Another AOC trip will be in attendance, so we may want to try to meet up with them after our hike.  We can discuss prior to the event.

Required Items to Bring:
Food to contribute to the picnic buffet
WATER (or electrolyte replacement), and plenty of it
1 or 2 flashlights/headlamps (every time we do this, at least one person's flashlight fails)
Fresh batteries for your lightsource
Warm layers/wind jacket (we'll be spending a few hours on top of Blood Mtn and it can get VERY chilly up there)
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Backpacking chair/woobie to sit on
Your favorite adult beverage (Please be responsible - Bad behavior will get you left on the top of the mtn as bear bait)
Hiking boots
Trekking poles
Hat
Camera
