NEW INFO ADDED BELOW IN RED, APR 27:

OVERVIEW:
Many of you AOCers have enjoyed joining me over the past couple of years to take part in various "Hash House Harrier" events; i.e. a couple of hours of hiking/jogging followed by a big informal backyard party with refreshments, munchies, singing, etc.  Due to popular demand we're offering you another chance to join your fellow AOCers for a "hash"—this time with our friends in the “Slow Old Bastards.”  The "SOB" harrier group gathers somewhere in metro Atlanta to enjoy the sport every other Sunday at 1:30 PM. They alternate their Sundays with the "Black Sheep" hashing group which normally "hares" much more strenuous hashes.
Our pace will be a combination of fast walking and slow jogging over a distance of about 3 miles. No funds are collected by the AOC, but if you decide to take part, bring $7 to the "Start" (at 1:30 PM May 2nd) to chip in to the SOBs' “hash cash” registrar for your fair share of the bountiful refreshments and munchies.

THE "START" LOCATION for each "hash" is typically the free side parking lot of some metro Atlanta shopping center.  It is normally not pubicized by the volunteer "hare" until about 3 days prior to the event.  I'll update this AOC website article ASAP with the exact May 2 start location and directions (+ any other special info provided by the SOB hare) and I'll also email that info to all registered AOCers. (See Below)

A LITTLE BACKGROUND on "HASHING":
The Hash House Harriers are a worldwide network of thousands of outdoor recreation enthusiasts who enjoy a non-competitive wacky running/jogging/walking sport called “hashing" (nothing to do with hashish, by the way)!  For each “hash” event a designated volunteer “hare” lays a trail, usually by leaving splotches of white baking flour every 30 or 40 yards or so through parks, woods, residential neighborhoods, etc. The remaining “harriers” or “hashers” help one another follow the hare's trail (yelling "On-On" when they're sure they're on the trail) until it eventually leads them to a secret party location called the “On-In.” Along with great munchies & refreshments (including both nonalcoholic and alcoholic drinks), every hash has lots of friendly socializing, bawdy drinking songs, and obligatory “down-downs” of libations for the hare, newcomers, “rule violators,” etc. There are free vehicle shuttle rides (if necessary) to get everyone safely back to the Start (usually no more than a couple of miles from the On-In for SOB hashes).

• Wear comfortable well-broken-in Running or Walking Shoes, Athletic Shorts, a T-Shirt, and perhaps a baseball Cap.
CAUTION! If you wear brand new shoes you may find yourself being asked to chug a beer out of one of them!

• As mentioned above, each of us brings $7 in cash to give the "Hash Cash" volunteer when we register for the event in the Start Area.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

• If you like, bring a compact folding chair and a small duffel bag with extra socks, sandals, etc. to change into at the "On-In" (in case your athletic shoes get wet). Free transportation is provided by hash volunteers to get everyone's bag and chair from the Start to the On-In during the hike—also to get you back to your vehicle at the Start afterward.
