The Bonas Defeat Gorge is a challenging empty river bed on the north end of Panthertown Valley. Described as dangerous, but stunning, the gorge is only about 2 miles long, but will take us 4+ hours to get though it. It's filled with waterfalls, pot-holes, boulders, and mini-caves. It's surrounded by woods and cliffs, some 400 ft high. This trip is D6 exploratory for a reason. Not only will the Bonas Defeat be physically challenging, but we'll also have to bushwhack about 3/4 mile to get there! :) The Trip Leader(s) reserve the right to remove anyone from the list who they feel cannot handle this trip. Click Here for some images of what you are getting into. The trip entails backpacking into Pathertown on Saturday and setting up camp near the north end. Probably do a warm up hike after we set up and gather wood. On Sunday we will tackle the Bonas Defeat. We'll leisurely pack up camp and head home on Monday. Note: We WILL NOT hike the gorge if there has been any steady or heavy rain several days before the trip. The top of the gorge has an automated spillway that CAN open after rain. Bad Things™ can happen if this occurs while we're in the gorge. The alternative plan is to find the unmarked gorge within Panthertown and some unmarked falls. This still requires some exploring skills and some bushwhacking. | |||||||
