Easy It’s easy to see why this is one of Georgia’s most popular state parks. Amicalola, a Cherokee Indian word meaning “tumbling waters,” is an appropriate name for these 729-foot falls — the tallest east of the Mississippi River. An eight-mile approach trail leads from the park to Springer Mountain, the southern end of the 2,150-mile Appalachian Trail. However, numerous other trails are available for shorter journeys. Be sure to stop by the park office to see nature displays, live exhibits and a gift shop. This is a great opportunity to get to know some new people and experience the beautiful North Georgia Mountains in Spring. Our favorite site has a creek running through it, and plenty of space for everyone to put up a tent. You’ll go to sleep with the sound of the rushing water and wake up to the sound of bird calls in the morning… This is primitive camping, meaning there are NO facilities…although showers and bathrooms are available in the nearby state park (a 5-10 minute drive) should you be totally averse to “roughing” it. You can also bathe in the stream, if you favor a REALLY cold bath….! Check out http://www.gastateparks.org/info.asp?id=64&siteid=5 for more info…. | |||||||
