Itinerary:

EVENT 2 of 2 AT TABLE ROCK

We've taken the best of Table Rock State Park in South Carolina and created two accessible D4 day hikes. You can choose to do this as a day trip from Atlanta or plan to stay in the area for both hikes.

This second hike tackles the "other" mountain peak at the park, Pinnacle Mountain. Pinnacle actually sits higher than Table Rock Mountain at 3,425 feet. Beginning near the Nature Center, we'll hike along Carrick Creek for the first couple of miles, passing waterfalls and making several stream crossings. Along the way, we'll take a short in-and-out side trail to an overlook of Mill Creek Falls before reaching Bald Rock Overlook, featuring some of the best views in the entire park. After a lunch and rest break, we'll make the final push up to Pinnacle -- this last section is short but steep with rocks and boulders. Depending on conditions, we'll plan to return by making a small loop at the top combining the forested Ridge and Mill Creek Pass trails before continuing back on the Pinnacle Trail.

Expected elevation gain is in the low- to mid-2,000s. Pace will be moderate and we'll stop to enjoy the sights and to have lunch near the top.

This event is rated D4 for elevation gain and technical terrain.

Logistics

Table Rock State Park is about a 3-hour drive from Atlanta.

The TLs plan to stay in the cabins inside the park for the nights of Wednesday, March 6 and Thursday, March 7. (So they plan to drive up Wednesday, do the two hikes on Thursday and Friday, and depart late Friday afternoon.) There are multiple cabins available these nights, plus there are campgrounds inside the park, nearby inns, and many lodging choices in Greenville.
