Itinerary:

Let's enjoy a Sunday with a great hike at a moderate/fast pace from the river level of Cochran Shoals to the old Mill on Sope Creek and back.

The hike will start at 9 am sharp by the bulletin board at the end of the Columns Drive parking lot.

We'll begin the hike near the Chattahoochee River and ascend N on a small trail with moderate climbs just right of the meeting point towards Sope Creek. We will continue NE on the main bike trail that divides Sope Creek from Cochran Shoals and skirt the Sope Creek to see - across the creek- the old paper mill that was burned by Union forces during the Civil War (a must see), continuing to the old flour mill by Paper Mill Rd. to take a water break. Then we will go past Sibley pond, towards the heart of the park, and when we reach the main bike trail that divides Sope Creek from Cochran Shoals, we will continue SW until we reach the creek. We will skirt the creek Southbound until we get to the gravel path to return to the parking lot.

Allow plenty of time to find parking, as often there is a line waiting at the entrance.
