Monday Morning at Vickery Creek - Groveway Park Entrance

Vickery Creek is one of our favorite parks, and Groveway Park is a great place to start the hike . . .  plenty of free parking and a bathroom!  

For those unfamiliar with Vickery Creek, the trails become rather technical in many places due to erosion that exposes lots of roots and leads to difficult footing.  This makes it a difficult D2 hike (not recommended for beginning hikers!). Poles are advised for some of the steeper hills.  Our pace will be moderate (not too fast), but again, for newer hikers, this trail would be challenging.  I've allowed an extra 15 minutes just so we don't have to feel rushed in order to get in 5 miles.

We'll start on time, so arrive about 10 minutes early (9:50 am) to use the bathroom and to meet/greet your fellow members. 

We will likely not need 2.5 hours for this hike, though a cushion of time has been planned just in case.

From GA 400: Get off at Holcomb Bridge Road GA 140 and head west towards Roswell.  Take a left at the first trafiic light which is Dogwood Road (there is a Krystal there).  Take a right at the first traffic light which is Grimes Bridge Road.  After crossing the bridge over Big Creek (aka Vickery Creek here) take a left at the traffic light which is Oxbo Road, then right on Dobbs Rd. Follow the road all the way down to the large athletic fields parking lot in front of the bathrooms. Don't turn too soon!  You should see the large parking lot on the right from the road.  (If your car is the only one in the lot, you're in the wrong parking lot!)

From GA 9: Heading north in GA 9 (aka South Atlanta Street), pass GA 120 (aka Marietta Highway) then watch for Oxbo Road on the right at the traffic light. After turning onto Oxbo Road, pass the little Oxbo parking lot on the right and take a left at the first opportunity onto Dobbs Road following it to the large athletic fields parking lot in front of the bathrooms. Don't turn too soon!   You should see the large parking lot on the right from the road.  (If your car is the only one in the lot, you're in the wrong parking lot!)

Groveway Park can also be accessed by driving into the Roswell Adult Recreation Center (830 Grimes Bridge Rd, Roswell, GA 30075)  and driving through to the back of the parking lot, turning right, and then left on the road that connects to Groveway Park.
