Gregory Bald Backpacking Trip

Itinerary:
We will park at the ranger station at Twentymile and begin around 10:30am . We will have an easy .5 mile where we will turn left on Wolf Ridge Trail. It starts off easy, and then climbs relentlessly for miles. This trail will gain over 3000' the next 5 miles to Parsons Bald. From Parsons Bald it will be an easy hike to Gregory Bald Trail (GBT).  We will set up camp at Sheep Pen Gap (Campsite #13) and then take a short hike to Gregory Bald to take in the 360 degree view and the wild azaleas should be in peak bloom.

The next day we will continue on the GBT to Long Hungry Ridge Trail. The trail will quickly drop 2000' in 2.5 miles  and then it will be level hiking for a mile to rejoin Twentymile Trail.  After 2.6 miles, we'll turn left and enjoy the sound of the river to finish out our hike. The total distance for the 2 day trip should be approx. 16 miles.

We will probably not arrive in back at the carpool in Atlanta until about 7pm on Sunday.

Tent, backpack, sleeping pad, raingear, warm jacket, flashlight, toilet paper, utensils, cookware, 2 lunches, 1 dinners and 1 breakfast, trail mix/snacks

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $120.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
