Itinerary:

NOT FOR BEGINNERS

Mason Mill + Medlock + Ira B. Melton + Lullwater + Hahn Woods

Yes, we will hike all five of these parks for 8+ miles of rambling in the woods.

We'll start at Mason Mill, then hike to Medlock for a quick loop there. We'll head again through Mason Mill to cross the creek to Ira B. Melton. When we're done there, we'll cross the creek again to hike to Lullwater Park. Our final park will be Hahn Woods. But this is not the end of the hike, but only the halfway point. We'll work our way back through Lullwater and Mason Mill to return to our starting point.

We'll be seeing the old Decatur water works and dam, Candler Lake, Lullwater House (originally owned by the Candler family, now the Emory President's residence), and multiple lovely creeks. While we will be on the boardwalk for part of the hike, most of it will be on the woodland trails that have some steep slopes, narrow trails (on steep slopes) and gnarly sections that make for some challenging footing. For this reason and the distance (8 to 8.5 miles), it is a D3, not a D2.

This is, however, a lovely area with some interesting old structures from another era, so it's worth the challenge. It makes for fun and interesting hiking.

I maintain an average pace of 2.6-2.8 mph. As I stated above, there are some steep slopes with rocks and gravel - all of which can add a little adventure to those steep slopes. Please don't sign up if you are not comfortable with these conditions and pace.

We will meet in Mason Mill Park by the restrooms and playground. Please arrive early to allow time for a restroom stop and mingling. We will hit the trail promptly at 8:30 am.
