Itinerary:

"Is it magic? Fairies? An unexplainable scientific phenomena? Join us at Anna Ruby Falls in June to view the bioluminescence known as "Foxfire". As part of a ranger led hike, we'll walk up to the waterfall for nighttime viewing, and then back down the trail to view the magical foxfire!"

That sounds kind of cool but it would be a long drive just for that.  So for this event, we are combining three North GA waterfalls, all geographically desirable to one another and with their own unique charms.

--------------------------------------------

Duke's Creek Falls

We will start out with the Dukes Creek Falls trail.  It is only a couple miles round trip although it does have about 375 feet of elevation change.   But a nice little hike and a good way to get warmed up for the even more impressive waterfalls to come.

--------------------------------------------

Raven Cliffs Falls

It is just another mile down the road to the trailhead for the Raven Cliffs Falls trail.  This is one of the most popular dayhikes in GA and for good reason...just a 2.5 mile moderate trail (so 5 round trip) that mostly follows the creek and ends at a majestic "hidden" waterfall, where we will take a long lunch break.

Those who would like to can climb up to the top of the cliffs for some even better views.  You can climb up some roots to get up there or take an easier route...steep but not dangerous or overly difficult.

--------------------------------------------

Foxfire Hike at Anna Ruby Falls

We will end with the ranger led hike at Anna Ruby Falls, where the amazing mystery of the "Foxifire" will be revealed. (!)  Of course you could google it and figure it out in about ten seconds... but more fun to just find out on the hike.

Cost is $3 per person payable directly to Anna Ruby Falls when we arrive there.  We have pre-registered our group so we are good to go.

The Anna Ruby Falls trail is just about .7 miles round trip and has about 160' of total ascent.  Sunset is not until 8:52, so assume we will be leaving there at around 9:30 or so and heading back to the carpool.

--------------------------------------------

All three of these hikes together are just about a D3...esp because there will be a good bit of rest time between each one.   We will be going at a moderate pace...if we have time after Raven Cliff Falls to grab a snack somewhere in Helen, we will do so but better to just bring the food and drink you need to play it safe.

Totals:

Dukes Creek Falls: 2.0 mi 375' ascent
Raven Cliffs Falls  5.0 mi  550' ascent
Anna Ruby Falls - 0.7 mi 160' ascent

Grand total :  7.7 mi, 1085' total ascent
