Itinerary:
This is our favorite annual hike - 11th year running!

The Conasauga River is in the scenic Cohutta Wilderness near Cisco, Georgia.  It is an easy 2.5-3 miles each way but there are 6 river crossings each way - nothing wild, but sometimes waist deep and potentially slippery.  Hiking sticks/poles are highly recommended because of the crossings.

Our lunch spot is in the middle of the river, atop some large, flat rocks.  After lunch we recommend leaving your gear on the rocks and walking/sliding/exploring our way up-river, in the river (rock-hopping, swimming holes, butt-slides if the water is up).  Or you can read a book in the sun or whatever.  We will stay at this spot for 2 hours before heading back.  There is a longish, grade uphill as we near the trailhead, otherwise this hike is a piece of cake if you are comfortable walking in a river.

Dinner will be at Little Rome in Chatsworth.  Good, home-made Italian food; large portions and very low prices.

Required Items to Bring:

This hike can be done in a bathing suit and river sandals.  Wear whatever you like, however we will not be stopping to change clothes or shoes at crossings.

A hiking stick or hiking poles are highly recommended.  My preference is a tall, wooden hiking stick.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, a towel, lunch, money to share driving expenses, and money for dinner.  Use ziplock bags for things that need to stay dry.  Bring dry clothes and a dry towel to leave in the cars to change after the hike.

We are in a dry county plus it's Sunday, so you might want to bring your favorite refreshments iced down in a cooler for when we get off the trail ;)

How to Get There:

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $64.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
