Yonah Mountain (commonly referred to as "Mount Yonah" or, by older Georgians, "Yonah Bald") is located in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest in the north of Georgia in the United States, between the towns of Cleveland and Helen. Yonah is the Cherokee word for Bear.^[2]

There is a signed trailhead from Chambers Road and an approximately 2.3 mile trail (gaining 1500 feet in elevation) leads to the summit. There are also side trails that lead to neighboring Pink Mountain. We'll go to Pink Mountain as well.

The 5th Ranger Training Battalion, Ranger Training Brigade of the United States Army conducts the Mountain Phase of Ranger School on Yonah Mountain. It has been a popular training ground for rock climbers.

The hike: we will do Yonah first, it's a generally speaking steep climb to the top - at the top we'll take in the views, then head down to cross over to Pink. Not much to see at Pink - sorry - but want to get in the mleage and small elevation gain.

We will not be doing any rock climbing on this hike.

There is a pit toilet at the trailhead.

Optional: The plan is to have a lunch stop after the hike, at a nearby place - bring your lunch or buy food at the nearby burger place (open until 2pm).

Qualifications for this hike: if you don't have a D4 or higher, please email the TL's your current experience. Your previous hiking history will help us determine if you qualify for this event. If we don't hear from you, we'll attempt to touch base with you, but please email us.

- The last half mile of the drive to the trailhead is on a well maintained gravel road.
