Itinerary:

Lets start the leaf peeping season at Fort Mountain!

I love the Gahuti Trail, except for the crappy road walk part. I love the 301 trail next to Mill Creek. Join me as I combine the best trails into one fabulous adventure at Fort Mountain State Park.

We will park near the entrance to the park where the Gahuti Trail crosses the park road. We head north on the Gahuti for about a mile where we will reach the intersection with Trail #301. A right turn on 301 will take us along Mill Creek, one of my favorite sections of the park. After a mile on 301, we reverse course and head back to the Gahuti. At about the 5 mile mark we will hit the Cool Springs Overlook which is AWESOME! After enjoying the views at the overlook we will head over to the West Overlook trail which will take us to the West Overlook, which is AWESOME! Back on the Gahuti we go until we reach about the 9 mile mark on our adventure. A quick left turn on the Big Rock Trail will help us avoid the dreadful road walk and get us to the Lake Trail which leads us back to the Gahuti and our cars.  Somewhere along the way we will stop for lunch and high hilarity.

I will be averaging about 3.0 mph which is on the high side of the moderate range. With 3000 feet of gain, this hike is mid-range in the D5 spectrum and is only appropriate for experienced D4/D5 hikers. Under qualified adventurers may be move to the waitlist.
