Itinerary:
Moderate 6-mile hike

This is a shared hike with the GATC (Georgia Appalachian Trail Club), originally on their calendar. As I usually get about 7 or 8 people from the GATC, we should be equal in numbers from each club. After driving up we will park at the new parking lot at the new Gorges State Park, right next to our trailhead to the Horsepasture River. There, we will hike to see Drift Falls, Turtleback Falls, the 150 Rainbow Falls, and lastly Stairstep Falls; all beautiful waterfalls on the magnificent National Scenic River-the Horsepasture. From there, time dependent, we can see Upper Whitewater Falls on the way back or Twin Falls on the Thompson River. And as always there will be an optional dining experience afterwards, this time at a nice local restaurant in Walhalla-the Steakhouse Cafeteria, an inexpensive ‘meat and vegetables’ diner.

Required Items to Bring:
A couple of liters or quarts of water as always
Wear clothing appropriate for the weather, layered if it’s cooler.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
trail food
lunch of your choosing
p plus shoes with good support; as this is a somewhat rocky hike.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:North Carolina park and ride lot only, please From the park and ride lot, we’ll travel up I-85 north to the first exit in South Carolina where we drive about 32 miles to our turn north to the trailhead in North Carolina (some 9 miles inside North Carolina)
