Moderate

What a great opportunity to get a jump on those Valentines Day Calories. This will be a 7 mile moderate difficulty well marked loop trail in the Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, just north of Columbus. The Trail combines a 5 mile section of the Pine Mountain Trail and a 2 mile section of the Beaver Dam Trail. There are several nice little hills and valleys to traverse. It passes multiple waterfalls along the way, a wolf den, beaver dams and there is beautiful scenery throughout. We will start off following the Beaver Dam Trail and its white blazes until we join up with the blue blazed Pine Mountain Trail. There will be a lunch break at the Wolfden overlooking some waterfalls. We will continue on the Pine Mountain Trail before returning to the TV tower parking lot. For those interested, there will be opportunities for a quick dinner/coffee/wine tasting in the Pine Mountain area before heading back to Atlanta.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:FDR State Park 85 South to I-185 South (via exit 21 towards Columbus). Georgia 18 is exit 34, head east towards Pine Mountain (~7miles). At Calloway Gardens Entrance intersection, turn left onto Georgia 354 and continue on this for 4 miles to Georgia 190 . Turn left onto 190 (towards warm springs and “Little White House”). This road will take you through some wonderful back country scenery. After 9.5 miles, you will approach a major intersection. On the left is the WJSP-TV Tower Parking Lot where we will park. We will depart from the northwest end of the lot, which will take us past the TV tower. For those not meeting at the carpool site, we will meet at the WJSP-TV Tower Parking lot at 10:00 am
