Itinerary:

Piedmont Park is a 189 acre "Central Park" of Atlanta located in the heart of the city, Midtown. The park is home to miles of beautiful walking paths and plenty of open and shaded spots for picnicking.

We will meet up at the big climbing tree between the meadow and the gazebo bridge. Our path will take us around the meadow, Lake Clara Meer, Oak Hill, the activity oval, and the tennis courts to end up back at our picnic spot. Total walking distance will be approximately 2 miles. Bring a sack lunch and drinks with you to sit out under the trees and enjoy the day.

Around noon we will begin our Tai Chi session. No experience needed! We will start from the very beginning, so if you've always wanted to give it a try, this is the perfect opportunity. More experienced practitioners of the art are more than welcome to join in with the beginners, practice on your own, or get additional instruction at your level.

For more information on Piedmont Park, visit the Piedmont Park Conservancy website:

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

We will be meeting at the large climbing tree. From the aquatic center (pool), cross the bridge with the gazebo and the tree is on the left.

GPS coordinates:  33°47'6.41"N  84°22'22.82"W

from I-75/85, Exit 10th St

Turn East on 10th St (this is a left if travelling south, a right if travelling north on 75/85)

Go 5 blocks, park will be on the left

Parking can get interesting, so allow extra time to park and get to the meet up spot.

Free on-street parking can be found in the neighborhood south of 10th street (across from the park), but be prepared to hunt for a space.

There is a brand new parking deck for the Botanical Garden which is open to park visitors, but there is a fee (usually $5, but bring more just in case). To get to the parking deck, continue on 10th St past the park, turn left on Monroe Dr, then left on Worcester.

An excellent map of the park can be found here: http://www.piedmontpark.org/pdf/Parking_Facility_Map.pdf

Notes:

The Tai Chi portion of the event is optional. Those who would prefer not to participate are welcome to just watch, continue picnicking or head out.
