Come join us in the cool of the approaching evening at Confedrate Hall parking lot at Georgia's fabulous Stone Mountain park. We're hiking the face of the mountain to the top, a relatively easy 2 1/2 mile roundtrip, where hopefully we'll be greeted by soft breezes to watch the setting sun. If you havent made this trek before, it's a bit of a challenge, but not too tiring... Bring a hearty snack or picnic dinner, a refreshing beverage and a story to share. We'll watch the sun dip below the horizon and a nearly full moon is due to rise around 7:30 that night. We'll see the planes heading in to land at the airport far in the distance and the sparkle of city lights before we head back down the mountain face. Although you can bring your headlamp if you wish, most nights, even with a partial moon, everyone can see their way down in the dark quite easily without a light.
Please keep in mind that alcohol is prohibited on the walk-up trail, although I hear that wine and chocolate and grapes and cheese might be perfect in such circumstances...

How to Get There:

Event Directions:

From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8. After entering the Park, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork in about 1 mile - stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. The parking lot will be immediately after. We will meet behind Confederate Hall, right outside of the railroad track and near the restrooms...at the start of the walk up trail.

There is a $10 fee to park at Stone Mountain, but you might choose to park in the Village of Stone Mountain instead: If you would like to try the free public parking, there is a Marta Park and Ride on Fourth Street in Stone Mountain Village. From there it is a less than a half mile walk on East Mountain Street into the Park and you will end up right at the start of the walk-up trail where we are meeting.
