Itinerary:

Come join us at the Cochran Mill Nature Center for a snake lecture and a hike afterwards. We will get to hear "Reptile" Rick, as he is called by his friends and colleagues, talk about the indigenous snakes of Georgia. He will go into some detail about the venomous snakes found in this state and how to identify them properly from a safe distance. There are several species of non-venomous and venomous snakes that live at the nature center so visitors can get a good view of the differences between them. Rick has been working for CMNC for many years and is a wealth of information regarding wildlife. This will be a great opportunity whether you like snakes or not to learn more about some of the critters we have to share the trail with.

Participants in this 45 minute outreach program will also come to understand the characteristics that distinguish a reptile. They will learn what specific types of reptile need to eat and how their habitats vary from each other. Live animal presentations are offered continually throughout the program with hands-on being allowed for the majority of the animals.

After Rick's program we will go for hike on the trails near the nature center that will be are approximately 3-4 miles of loops on both sides of Bear Creek. We will see remnants of the old dam and millstones from the long gone Cochran Mill and a pretty waterfall that is not far from Fulton County's Cochran Mill Park. These are easy-going trails that we will hike at a moderate pace.
