Itinerary:

Greetings AOC Hikers!

This is one of my favorite hikes in the metro Atlanta area. It has a lot to offer in terms of beauty! It is also a physical challenge at some points of the hike.

This is one of the club's more challenging local hikes, so I want hikers who have a lot of D3 experience (at the minimum) to attend this event.

There are points on the trail where it is rugged and rocky -- and there is a total elevation gain of 1800+ feet during this event.

We will start our hike at the West Loop Trailhead and make our way to the David Archer Overlook for mountain top views of the Atlanta skyline and Lake Allatoona.

After snapping a photo or two, we will head downhill on the East Loop Trail.  At about the half way point of the loop we will veer off towards Coopers Furnace.

Once we arrive to Coopers Furnace, we'll stop and take a short break. (We will also take a sneak peek at the dam.)

After our break, we'll make our way up a steep hill to the Lake Allatoona observation point for a fantastic view of the lake and the dam.

After that break, we'll head back to the Pine Mountain East Loop Trail, then veer to the West Loop Trail and back to our starting point.

Important note: We will be stopping at all trail intersections to regroup. We will not leave anyone behind!

Our pace will be a moderate pace. This is NOT a fast hike. If you are looking for a super fast event, then this is not it!

There are Porta-Pots at the parking lot if you need them!

After the hike, there will be an option to eat lunch at a local Cartersville Restaurant, if you are interested. I like to have social events at the end of most of my hikes (when possible).
