Itinerary:

Sweetwater State Conservation Park is one of the treasures to be found near metro Atlanta. This park offers beauty and wildlife viewing for visitors all year long in addition to some Civil War history. The park sets atop the Brevard Fault which makes the terrain steeper than the surrounding areas. The creek itself offers many scenic spots as it tumbles over the shoals and the natural dam nearby.

We are going to start on the white trail (3miles) which will lead us past Jack's Hill and Jack's Lake, and eventually meet up with the red trail (1 mile) which runs along the creek. We'll pass by the mill ruins and then start down the yellow trail (.5 miles). This trail dead-ends at the metal bridge that was destroyed during the flood in 2009. The effects of the flood waters are very apparent on this trail and an interesting site to see. We'll then double-back to the red trail and at that point hikers can return to their cars or continue onto to the blue trail for a little extra mileage. This is an easy going trail that is good for spotting wildlife.

Total distance will be 5-6 mi and pace will be moderate.

Note: there is a $5 per vehicle parking fee, which is why we are doing a carpool, even though it is only five miles away.

And remember that any dogs need to be on a 6 foot leash.
