Itinerary:

Let's hike the Homestead trail and other trails at Red Top Mountain State Park. This moderate paced hike will cover approximately 6 miles in about 2.5 hours. Although the hiking is not difficult, our itinerary will include enough short climbs so that beginners should be cautioned.

We will meet at the Park Offices located at 50 Lodge Road, Cartersville, GA.  As this is a State Park, there is a cost of $5 or use of an annual State Park parking pass.

Our likely route will begin with the Sweet Gum trail towards the Homestead trail. We will complete the 3 mile loop clockwise. While hiking the loop, we will stop briefly at two additional lake views.  Utilizing the Homestead and Sweet Gum trails we will head to the Red Top Trading Post before taking the Osprey and Sweet Gum trails back to the Park Visitors Center and our cars.

Red Top Mountain State Park is located on what was once a thriving Iron Ore Mining operation which operated prior to the Civil War.  Plan to get some interesting history during our breaks on the trail.
