Itinerary:

DISCLAIMER: This is a brisk, strenuous hike with 2500+ foot elevation gain and a substantial amount of rock scrambling. So, if you have mobility issues, are recovering from injury, or do not have recent D4+ experience, please sit this one out!

Truth be told, I would like to get in a solid D5 hike without having to drive hours to the Mountains, so come join me for a morning D5 on the ROCK. Need more convincing? Its cool in the AM, you get to see a sunrise (hopefully), potty breaks galore (five), you get your 10K steps in before 10, and best of all, you minimise your carbon footprint because the ROCK is so close to town! Win-Win-Win-Win-Win!

The overall plan is to summit the mountain THREE times, ride the Cherokee trail saddle once, and walk around the Rock once. So, we'll meet/begin at the Whistle Stop area, summit the mountain, back to the potties, South around the Cherokee saddle up to the summit, regroup near the summit Geo-markers, descend via the North Cherokee saddle, potty break three, then around the lake and rock via the Cherokee trail for the final summit push, then a mini-summit jog to reach elevation minimum before heading back down to the parking lot. D5 achieved!

There is no cost for this event, however, entry to Stone Mountain Park is $20 per vehicle, or $40 for an annual pass. If you want to avoid the fee, you can park for free outside the Park or on Main Street in Stone Mountain Village and walk or ride your bike for free into the park.
