How about a long D4 hike in August? The reward is a refreshing SPLASH in the lake!

We will park in Helen, hike on Helen Trail, Bottom Loop, and Frog Pond, followed by a walk across Unicoi Campground Rd to Smith Creek Trail.

We will get our D4 elevation by hiking 2 miles out and back on Smith Creek Trail, once we are back to GA-356, we will walk over the Dam to take Lake Trail to the beach area.

Going to the beach includes 0.3miles each way on a main road, but there is a wide grassy shoulder to walk on.

We will take a well deserved lunch break and cool off our feet in the water, you can swim if you wish but this is more of a shallow kids swim area.

After lunch, we’ll head back to our cars. It’s a 4 miles hike back, it’ll be a breeze!
