Itinerary:
An ideal hike for nick of time planners or non-planners

Breath fresh air and enjoy early morning sun with least number of visitors around on top of the stone mountain.

We will hike to the top through approach trail, then we will descent towards the souhtwest edge of the mountain towards Nature Garden trail and Cherokee trail connector. We will continue on cherokee trail for a brisk hike around Stone Mountain. The Cherokee Trail circles the mountain for a distance of about 5 miles. We will hike at times on exposed granite, along woodland trails and beside scenic lakes.

The goal of this hike is to enjoy a vigorous workout.
No time for picture taking or sight seeing. We will take two breaks, first one at top of stone mountain and other at the half way point of Cherokee Trail for restrooms and a quick snack. We will maintian an average pace of about 2.75 miles per hour. So, this is not a beginners hike! You must have some experience hiking at an energetic pace and be ready for a workout.

We are talking about a total hiking distance of about 6.5 to 7 miles.

HIKE WILL START FROM CONFEDERATE HALL PARKING LOT AT 7.30am. PLEASE BE THERE 5 MINUTES EARLY FOR SIGN UP AND INTRODUCTION.

Free parking is avaialable at MARTA PARK n RIDE parking lot. I will park at Marta Park n Ride, will leave that lot at 7.15 to walk towards Confederate Hall. From there it is less than a half mile walk to the park and the entrance is near our meeting area. Please take the time to look at the park map and parking options in order to be on time!

Watch the weather! This event will be cancelled due to rain. Portions of the trail consists of exposed granite on steep slopes. It is simply too slippery and dangerous when wet.
