Itinerary:
Looking to enjoy a moderate morning hike around Sweetwater Creek State Park with its ruins, meadow, and waterfall. The plan is to start on the white trail which takes us through the back areas of the park, through a meadow and past Jack's Lake.  After 3 miles, the white trail forks into the red and blue trails. We'll make a loop of these, taking the red trail along Sweetwater Creek and the ruins twice. The total distance covered will be approximately 7 miles.  There are low to moderate elevation changes. If you bring something with four legs, please remember that the park rule is that they have to be leashed.

There is a $5 per vehicle parking fee.

Required Items to Bring:
  • Plenty of water
  • Good hiking shoes
  • Rain gear (just in case)
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:* Take I-20 west from Atlanta
* Take Exit 44 at Thornton Rd and turn left off the ramp
* After 0.25 miles, turn right on Blairs Bridge Rd
* After 2 miles, turn left on Mount Vernon Rd
* After a few miles you'll see state park signs.  After crossing two bridges look left for a road with a sign for trail access. Turn left here.  You should see a little hut here that is usually unmanned.
