Itinerary:

If you haven't heard, November 1st is Extra Mile Day.  With that in mind we're adding on to the usual 6 mile route.

This is not a beginner's hike.  While this is a D3 hike, the pace will be faster than most.    If you are concerned that you may not be able to keep up there are other hikes that may be more appropriate for you.

We will meet near the bike rack at the entrance of the overflow parking lot.  Be advised that the visitor center (including restrooms) is closed due to ongoing political shenanigans.  From the overflow lot, we will go by the visitor center and head straight up and over Big KM,  Little KM, and Pigeon Hill to Burnt Hickory Rd.  We will regroup at Burnt Hickory before crossing over and taking New Salem Church trail and Camp Brumby trail around the mountain and back to the overflow lot.

Our target pace will be 3mph so bring water that you can drink on the go.  My goal is to cover the ~7 miles with 1150 ft of elevation gain and be back to the parking lot by 11:30am.

There is a $5 parking fee required if you don't have an annual pass.  The fee can be paid ahead of time at Recreation.gov or at the visitor center.  I don't know how the shutdown is affecting this, but be prepared to pay anyway.

NOTE:  The itenerary for this hike is subject to change up to and including during the hike.  This means that we may decide to alter the course slightly, but nothing too drastic.
