Itinerary:

The Park:

As described by Pine Mountain Trail Association: Quiet woods, sparkling streams, misty waterfalls, rock outcroppings, varied forest, scenic overlooks, deer and turkey await your discovery.

FDR often visited the area of the Wolfden and Cascade Falls, on April 12, 1945, Roosevelt died at his retreat, named the Little White House located a couple miles away.

Pine Mountain is a Point-to-point 23 miles trail with about 3700 feet elevation gain, a route from one end of the park to another.

West to East Trailhead Location: Trailhead and Outlook Parking

How it works:

- Starting the hike: We will be devided into 2 groups at the carpool location, each group will drive seperately and start hiking from their respective ends of the trail.

- Key Swap: Both groups will continue hiking towards each other, until they meet and exchange the cars keys.

- Lunch: Best efforts will be made to meet at the halfway point for a quick lunch together.

- Additional Stops: The trip leader will decide if the group has enough time and energy to make the following stops: a) the summit of Dowdell's Knob for photos with life-size statue of Franklin D. Roosevelt. b) Visitor Center and bathrooms.

- Optional Festivity: Everyone will meet back at the carpool location, we will celebrate at Old Chicago Pizza (next to NCG Cinema).

The hard-and-fast rules:

-       Trip leaders will assign participants to each group.

-       All participants must meet at the carpool.

-       To participate, you must have recently completed multiple D5 hikes in the last 6 weeks.  Trip leaders will make final determination for participation.

Special thank you to trip leaders Ann & Ralph Howard!
