Come join me on a nice out-and-back hike from the top-of-falls lot at Amicalola Falls State Park to the Len Foote Hike Inn. We will hike about 9.5 miles and climb about 1,600 feet. We will enjoy the fall colors and cooler temperatures that will help us power over the difficult sections of the trail. We will enjoy spectacular views from the Inn, and will take a 20-30 minute break for lunch before heading back down the same trail to the top of falls lot.

I'm calling the pace "fast," but that is mainly to keep people from being misled by "moderate." We will aim for an average pace of 2.4 miles an hour, which means we will be closer to 3 mph much of the time. I don't normally describe a 2.4 mph pace as "fast," but I am here because there is a significant amount of climbing, and the pace will feel faster for that reason. So please be sure you can keep up at a brisk pace.

If you do not have recent AOC experience that the trip leader considers sufficient to show you can enjoy this hike, you will be moved to the waitlist. If you choose, you may provide him with a link to a recording of a recent hike with a distance of around 10 miles and climbing around 1500 feet. The trip leader may accept it and add you to the hike.

Your GPS should have no difficulty finding Amicalola Falls State Park. Once in the park, turn left at the visitor center and bear left to the bathrooms at the Len Foote trailhead.

Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $36.80 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

There is a $5 parking fee if you don't have a State Park Annual Pass (highly recommended).
