Itinerary:

Join me for a 5-mile hike along the Cheatham Hill Trail loop in the Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield.

This will be a mostly silent hike (the first hour), so we can enjoy nature and see more deear without distrupting them. Silent hikes allow us to walk with mindfulness and better connect with nature.

The trail, that goes from West Kolb Farm Trail to Powder Spring Road, and then continues on the East Kolb Farm trail, is mostly wide and flat, features beautiful grassy meadows, creek crossings (on bridges) Civil War battlefields, and milestones such as the Illinois Monument and the grave of the Unknown Soldier. As we head back, we will walk along a creek where you can sometimes see a great blue heron.

Our pace will be steady with an average of 2.5+ mph

Let's meet 10 minutes before the official start of the hike at the Cheatham Hill Trail Parking Lot. From Whitlock Avenue/Dallas Highway, turn on John Ward Rd, get to the traffic circle and take the second exit. The parking lot is on the right, about ¼ mile past the circle.

If you want to hear about the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, you can go to the KM’s Visitor center's auditorium, or you can access the documentary from your laptop or your phone! Click on the link to the documentary narrated by Peter Coyote.
