Thank you to Ron and Leigh for their hike write-up. Please join Ann and I on the Rocky Top and Thunderhead Mountains Trail. This is one of three GSMNP hikes we will be leading. We will be staying at the Talley Ho Inn in Townsend, TN, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Please contact us if you would like to stay at the same location and carpool. We will also plan meals together during the trip. GSMNP is the premier hiking location in the southeast, but there is more to it than Alum Cave, Charlies Bunion etc... Come see the 360 views so awesome that they inspired a song! We will start on the Anthony Creek Trail. A junction with the Bote Mountain Trail will meet us and a right turn will keep us headed in the right direction. 2.5 miles of uphill climb will bring us to the white blaze of the AT for a left turn and another mile of uphill climb to get to the top of Rocky Top, Rocky Top Tennessee! Thunderhead Mountain is made up of three distinct summits. The first is Rocky Top, the best view in the park. Next is the middle peak, Rocky Top Two, just .3 miles beyond Rocky Top. Another .3 miles is Thunderhead Summit. We can decide on our lunch spot. We will have our lunch and 360 views until we retrace our steps back to our cars. Please have recent mid D5 or D6 experience in the last 6 weeks to join hike. Fee information: While there is no entrance fee, a paid parking tag is required for those who park longer than 15 minutes.
