Standing Indian - Albert Mountain Loop - D7 Prep

Note, this is the 3rd qualifying/prep hike for my D7 hike on April 4th. Hikers on the waitlist for that D7 hike will be given priority on this hike.  Because of this you will be added to the waitlist when you register.  I'll then move people to the hike roster who are registered for the D7 hike in order of sign up.

Join me for this classic long loop hike over Standing Indian and Albert Mountains.  The majority of the hike will be following the white blazes of the AT plus a couple blue blazed approach trails climbing up to and down from the AT. This is a long 23 mile hike but the total elevation gain is a manageable 4300 ft.

We'll start at the Backcountry Info kiosk near Standing Indian Campground and head up the Long Branch Trail to it's intersection with the AT.  A right at the intersection and we're headed south bound on the AT. Then it's up Albert Mountain for a 360 degree view from the fire tower. After a short steep decline down the other side we'll cross over Ball Creek Road a couple of times before a long mostly ridgeline walk to Standing Indian Mountain. We'll take in the view from the top and then descend to Deep Gap where we'll turn onto the Kimsey Creek trail for the hike back to the cars.

Due to the difficulty of the hike you need prior strong D6 experience or the equivalent.  So we finish before dark, I'll try to keep a quick average pace around 2.8 mph with easier sections at 3.0+ mph.  This is a high end D6 hike and you should be comfortable on hikes lasting 9 hrs with minimum breaks. Total distance comes to over 23 miles with 4300 ft of climbing. Hikers without recent D6 experience will get an email to assess your compatibility.

We will meet at the Back Country Info kiosk near Standing Indian Campground (aka Kimsey Creek Trailhead parking).
