Itinerary:

Please join me to hike at Stone Mountain Park!  We will climb to the peak two times while exploring both the Cherokee and Kings Island trails between our two ascents.

Plan on meeting next to the restrooms at the Walkup Trail at 8:20 sharp, the parking will fill up fast on a Saturday morning so try to be on time so we can do quick introductions and start on time.  The Walk Up Trail is just next to the West Gate near the Historical & Evironmental Center.  The parking pass is $20 day or $40 for an annual pass.  You can park for free in Stone Mountain Village on Main Street and walk to the West Gate along E. Mountain Street. Please give yourself an extra 20 minutes if you decide to park in Stone Mountain Village and walk.

We will head up the Walk Up Trail and meet at the marker, the highest point, at the top. Next we will head down to the intersection of the Walk Up Trail and the Cherokee Trail, we will proceed on the loop trail counterclockwise until we get to the covered bridge where we will add the Kings Island trail to our trek.  After enjoying the views from the back side of the mountain and the water, we will arrive at the Gristmill.  There are flushable restrooms at the Gristmill making it a good choice for a short break.  We will resume by going in front of the carving before circling back towards the Walk Up Trail.  Before we get there, we will detour on the Cherokee Trail up the mountain to start our second ascent.  After taking in the views at the top for a second time, we will descend back to our cars. Afterwards, if you want to join me at the  German restaurant, Village Corner for lunch and/or a liquid refreshment, it is located just outside the West Gate, plan to come, this is completely voluntary and not part of the AOC event.

Please make sure you have done at least two D3 hikes or higher level hikes with the Club before registering, as we want to make sure you are able to enjoy your experience.
