Itinerary:
This is the first hike of the Sunrise Series, a series of hikes meant to get people out of their beds and into the woods for the other golden hour.  These will generally be short, local hikes starting just before sunrise.  Some starting as easy strolls along rivers while the sun brings the woods to life, some starting with a climb in the gathering dawn to get to a summit or other viewpoint to watch the sun break the horizon.

This first sunrise hike is along the river in Cochran Shoals, a treasure trove for birds and various flora.  We will start slowly and quietly (so as not to disturb the birders or birds) from the Interstate North entrance, walking along the river as the birds start waking up on the fall-hued shores of the Chattahoochee.  Once we reach the Columns Drive parking lot, about 1.5 miles and about 30 minutes or so in, when the morning has started in full force, we'll pick up the pace (and conversation) considerably and head north to Sope Creek and Sibley Pond, sticking to backtrails as much as possible and getting our heartrates up a bit.  We'll loop around the Sibley Pond area, then come back on inland trails, retracing only the last half mile along the riverside.

There is a little elevation change, but it's mosly flat.  Due to the many intersections, we won't spread out too much.  After this peaceful morning hike you'll be ready for a great Sunday.

This hike will happen even in light rain, but we'll postpone if there is heavy rain.
