Itinerary:

HIKE IS UPDATE TO AVOID EAST RIDGE TRAIL, CURRENTLY CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE.

We will meet at the parking lot across the street from visitor center, and take the Creek Trail up to the 604 steps climb alongside the waterfall.

Then we will take the Approach Trail (all of it) passing by Frosty Mountain and Nimblewill Gap on our way to Springer Mountain, the official start of the AT.

Our trip out from the visitor center is about 9 miles, 3200ft elevation gain.

The hike back from Springer will be also 9 miles with only 1200ft elevation gain.

Total elevation gain is around 4400 ft.

We will have lunch by this tree on top of Springer then retrace our steps back.

There will be several scenic overlooks along the hike, where we can take a minute and enjoy the surroundings.

If your AOC profile doesn’t list any recent qualifying events, your name will be added to the waitlist. If you could share records of recent qualifying hikes you’ve completed outside the AOC, I’d be glad to take another look.
